Dorotha Isabel Taplin went to be with our Lord on March 18, 2024. She was 101 years old. She was born November 3, 1922 in Okmulgee, Oklahoma to Atwell and Della Shelton. Her family relocated from Okmulgee to Benavides, Tx in 1940. After graduating from Benavides High School, she moved with her sister Geraldine Shelton Snowden to Alice, Texas.
Dorotha worked in the five and dime measuring out candy for sale. She also worked at the Rialto Movie Theater on Main Street selling tickets. She then went to work for Southwestern Bell Telephone Company as a telephone operator; “Number please.”
She met and married Bill Taplin in 1946, a handsome WWII B17 bomber. Bill Taplin was born in Wellington, Texas, but lived in Agua Dulce, Texas. They lived in Alice throughout their 40 years marriage.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Atwell and Della Shelton; her husband Bill Taplin and her sister Geraldine Shelton Snowden.
Dorotha is survived by her daughters Pam Cox and Debbie Chisler of Katy, Texas and Russell Taplin of Alice, Texas. She leaves behind a legacy of love and warmth through her children, her nine grandchildren and her eighteen great-grandchildren.
She will be remembered for her willingness to care for those in need, providing a loving Godly home for her family and her devotion to her church and the Lord.
Viewing will be held at Holmgreen Mortuary, on Friday, March 22, 2024 from 3:00 to 4:00 PM. A Memorial Service will be held at the First Baptist Church, Alice, Texas on Saturday, March 23, 2023, at 11:00 AM.
