Betty Ruth Kelley passed away at the age of 86 in Austin, Texas on June 9, 2019 surrounded by her family.
Betty was born in Dalhart, Texas on August 21, 1932, to Wallace and Edna Waller. The family moved to the South Texas area and Betty graduated from Ben Bolt High School in 1949. After business school, she worked as a legal secretary in Alice, Texas where she married Bill Kelley. Later in her career Betty moved to Houston, Texas to be a court reporter for Harris County until retiring. Then, relocated to Austin, Texas to be closer to her family and became an active member of the Westlake Hills Presbyterian Church.
Betty loved good food and socializing, enjoyed cooking for her family, creating new recipes, and especially making Christmas candy for everyone to enjoy. Always smiling, she was happiest when surrounded by family and friends and sharing a meal or margaritas at birthdays, holidays or family gatherings.
Betty’s spirit and eagerness to learn was an integral part of her vibrant personality. She was always open to a new adventure and created a successful online business for solar lights after retiring.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents, Wallace W. Waller and Edna E. Waller, and her brothers, Cecil Waller, Malvin Waller, Melvin Waller, Orval Waller and Edwin Waller. She is survived by her nieces, Shirley Clark, Lynda Wildman, Brenda Peterson, Carolyn (Dan) Chambers, Ima (Larry) Teague, Gloria Putney, nephews David (Patricia) Waller, Melvin T. Waller, Walter R. Waller and many grand-nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 7, 2019 at Holmgreen Mortuary Chapel.
Interment will follow at Alice Cemetery, 1230 Martin Luther King Blvd. in Alice, Texas.
