Israel Canales, age 70, passed away peacefully, with his family by his side, on Wednesday, October 9, 2019, at La Paloma Nursing Center in San Diego, Texas.
He was born on April 20, 1949, to Celestino and Eva (Chapa) Canales in Alice, Texas. On September 21, 1968, he married Delia Gomez in Alice, Texas, and they had three children. Israel was a hard worker and dedicated himself to provide for his family. He worked many years in the oil field, and later was employed by the City of Alice Water Department where he retired in 1997.
Israel was preceded in death by his father, Celestino Canales, his mother, Eva (Chapa) Canales, one brother, Roberto Canales, and two sisters, Gloria Rios and Amelia Mancias.
He is survived by his wife Delia (Gomez) Canales; daughters, Evette Canales (Adrian Gonzalez), and Hope (Andrew) Hughes; sons, Armando Canales (Irene Govea), and Teo Gomez III; siblings, Fermin (Angie) Canales, Sylvia Applegate, and Adan (Paula) Canales; grandchildren, Adrian Lee Gonzales, Megan (Jessica) Lomas, Lynzie Gonzalez, Marco Guerrero, Preston Hughes, and Michael Guillen; great-grandchild, Haven Lomas; and numerous nephews and nieces.
Holy Rosary will be recited at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, November 15, 2019, followed by Memorial Mass with Monsignor Pivonka as celebrant, at Holmgreen Mortuary Chapel in Alice, Texas. Burial will be held at a later date.
Arrangements are entrusted to Holmgreen Mortuary, 2061 East Main Street, Alice, Texas.
