Alvie O'neil Gipson, 84, passed away after a sudden illness on April 11, 2023. He was born February 16, 1939 in Alice, Texas.
O'neil served in the U.S. Navy after high school and then worked in the oilfield in sales. In later years he opened his own dog kennel and became known as the "Dog Man." He was also known as the "Tamale Man" and sold his tamales in the area. O'neil was also a gourmet cook and loved to share his recipes.
After moving to Pleasanton in 2009 he continued raising dogs and selling his tamales. O'neil was a 32nd Degree Scottish Rite Mason. He began his membership with S.B. Mosser Masonic Lodge #912, Alice and transferred to Zanderson Lodge #1120, Jourdanton in 2009. He was a member of 50 years and recently honored with an endowed membership in the Jourdanton lodge.
When he became ill, he returned to Alice in October and resided in Meridian Nursing Home. O'neil is preceded in death by his parents, Orice and Lorraine Gipson; his two sons, Curtis O'neil Gipson and Gary Allen Gipson and sister Pat Gilliam.
Survivors include his wife, Barbara Carter Gipson of Orange Grove, son Michael Dean Gipson (Kathleen) and four grandchildren of Pennsylvania; sister Phyllis Ramsey- Smith (Jacob) of Alice, Texas, sister-in-law Susie Tipps of Orange Grove, and nieces, nephews and a host of friends.
A Viewing will be held at 10:00 AM with a Graveside Service to follow at 10:30 AM on Saturday, April 15, 2023 at Alice Cemetery.
