Barry Fuhrken

Barry Fuhrken, age 71, passed on Monday August 11, 2025 in Corpus Christi, Texas. Barry was born to Werner and Evelyn (Wostal) Fuhrken in Mathis, Texas on November 25, 1953.

Barry retired from Celanese in Bishop as a Senior Environmental Specialist after over 40 years of service. He was a lifelong member of the Bishop Volunteer Fire department where he served in many roles including Chief for over ten years, as well as serving actively as treasurer on the Nueces County emergency service district 3 Board of Commissioners. Barry was a long-time member, instructor, Certification Coordinator, and board member of the State Firemen’s and Fire Marshal’s Association. He believed in his heart that time in service of his community, was time well spent.

Over the years Barry built countless friendships that he cherished dearly. Most of all Barry Fuhrken loved his family. He would say that his favorite activity was supporting you in yours. Barry especially enjoyed time supporting activities of his children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

He was a lifelong fan of Texas A&M sports and enjoyed any sport the Aggies were competing in. He also enjoyed bowling and spent many years participating in the organization of his local bowling league.

Barry Fuhrken is preceded in death by his parents Werner and Evelyn Fuhrken; and his brother John Fuhrken.

He is survived by his children Travis Fuhrken (Becky Fuhrken), Monica O’Brien (Jim O’Brien), Brandy Reeves, Daniel Davis (Kimberly Davis); grandchildren, Kurstin Rodriquez, Erin Watson, Tyler Fuhrken, Cameron Fuhrken, Brennan Fuhrken, Brady O’Brien, Kendal O’Brien, Anthony Reeves, Jazlynn Vigil, Nicholas Davis, Ella Davis; great grandchildren, Aria Rodriquez, Griffin Watson; siblings, Wanda Speis, Dolly Grimes, Pam Herschap, Glen Fuhrken.  

Honored to serve as pallbearers will be: Cameron Fuhrken, Tyler Fuhrken, Brennan Fuhrken, Nicholas Davis, Eric Herschap, Kyle Herschap. 

Honorary Pallbearer: Anthony Reeves. 

A Visitation will be held on Monday, August 18, 2025 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Holmgreen Mortuary 2061 E Main St. Alice, TX. A Chapel Service will be held Tuesday, August 19, 2025 at 10:00 AM at Holmgreen Mortuary 2061 E Main St. Alice, TX. Burial will follow at Sons of Hermann Cemetery.

Arrangements are entrusted to Holmgreen Mortuary, 2061 E. Main St, Alice, Texas.
