Bruno Cantu, Jr. Obituary

Bruno “BJ” Cantu, Jr. peacefully entered into the Pearly Gates of Heaven on Friday, October 28, 2022 in Corpus Christi, Texas. He was born on December 4, 1956 in Benavides, Texas to Bruno G. and Maria E. Pena Cantu.

Bruno enrolled at college in Laredo, TX. where he became a firefighter. He ventured on to serve as an expert rifleman in the Florida’s National Guard where he honorably completed his services and went on to become an officer for the Florida Division of Corrections. He made his true mark when he became the owner and operator of B.J. Cantu Trucking, being known to his family, friends, and colleagues as the “Deputy Dawg” for 25 years before becoming sick with cancer.

Bruno loved his family dearly and looked forward to spending as much time with them as God would allow him on this earth. He liked to fish, barbecue, dance, refurbish vehicles, and eat candy on a daily basis. His pride and joy were watching Louie, Josh, and Kimmy play sports. He was devoted to his wife Janie who he loved dearly and always made sure that she was taken care of.

He is preceded in death by his mother, Maria and brother, Timotheo P. Cantu.

He was the loving husband to San Juanita “Janie” Cantu of San Diego, TX., the father to Rico Luis Sanchez of San Antonio, TX, Joshua Michael Cantu and Kimberly Arlene Knox of Corpus Christi, TX and the grandfather to Alyssa Marie Sanchez and Kailand Rico Sanchez of San Antonio, TX.

Bruno is survived by brothers Noel P. Cantu and Valentine Rodriguez, sisters Diana C. Lopez, Idalia P. Hernandez, and Maria E. Killbride, as well as numerous uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

“Mom says to tell you she will love you forever and for always, and your babies just want you to know that you were the toughest man on this earth and that words can’t describe what you mean to us. You left us too soon but heaven received a beautiful angel and we know that you’ll always be with us. We love you, forever. “
