Charlotte Byrd Obituary

Charlotte Ann Harper Byrd, age 80, of Wichita Falls, formerly of Austin Texas, passed away Saturday March 11, 2023 after a courageous battle with Pulmonary Fibrosis. Charlotte was born October 28 1942 to James and Annie Yates Harper in Alice Texas.

She graduated from William Adams High School in 1961 and went on to excel through a nine-month Secretarial Science course in only six months at South Texas Commercial College in Corpus Christi. Upon graduation, she immediately accepted a position with the Federal Bureau of Investigation in Washington DC. She went on to work as the Secretary to the Postmaster in Greenwich, CT, and then as a stenographer clerk at the post office in Houston.

In 1967 she married John L. Byrd, a USAF Tech Sergeant. Over the course of their 14-year marriage, they had 2 children, John Ross and Lou Ann, and his Air Force career took them to stations in San Antonio, Wichita Falls, Blytheville Arkansas and Bentwaters England. In 1985 Charlotte moved to Austin, Texas, where she resided for 32 years, finally retiring in 2015 from Mid-Tex Sales and Service after 17 years as bookkeeper. In 2017 she moved to Wichita Falls to be closer to her daughter, LouAnn.  

She was preceded in death by her father James Harper, “Mother & Daddy” Annie and George H. Deer, her brother Jimmy Ross Harper, her son John Ross Byrd, her sister Elaine Deer Oxley and niece, Kelley Steindorf. 

Charlotte is survived by her daughter and son in law, Lou Ann and Beau Kincaid of Wichita Falls, sister Mary Jo Deer Wood, and husband Steve of Friendswood, nephews Adam Kalinec and wife Jennifer, Keith Kalinec, David Wood and wife Sara, and Kevin Wood, nephew Britain Oxley, and a host of extended family and friends. 

Her family is grateful for the love and care she received from doctors and nurses at Clinics of North Texas, to Brooke and the staff at United Regional Health Care Cardiopulmonary Rehab and the staff of Hospice of Wichita Falls who have cared for Mom.  

A Graveside Service will be held at 11 AM on Saturday, March 18, 2023 at Alice Cemetery with Pastor Ross Dudney officiating.
