Clarence May, Jr. Obituary

Clarence Edward (C.E.) May, Jr. of Agua Dulce, Texas passed away peacefully on May 28, 2024, in Alice, Texas after a very short battle with cancer. C.E. was born on December 5, 1949, in Kingsville, Texas, to his loving parents, Clarence Edward and Dorthella May. C.E. was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Janis May Brown. He is survived by his wife, Leah Ballard May; his son, Grayson Ballard May; his brother, Steven (Peggy) May; and numerous family members and friends who cherished him dearly.

C.E. was a proud graduate of Riviera-Kaufer High School, Class of 1968, where he excelled in sports and was renowned for his speed and agility. He held the record for the 100-yard dash at his alma mater, a testament to his athletic prowess. Continuing his education, he attended Texas A&I University on a track scholarship, embodying dedication and commitment in both his academic and athletic pursuits.

Throughout his life, C.E. worked hard and dedicated himself to his true passion for farming. He grew up helping on the family farm and later began farming in Agua Dulce in 1973 where his parents’ purchased farmland, and he quickly became a member of the community. In 1985, he and his brother Steven established May Brothers Farms and farmed numerous acres in Kleberg, Jim Wells, and Nueces counties for almost 20 years. In 2004, he co-founded May Farms with his cousin, Allen May, where he farmed in Kleberg, Jim Wells, and Nueces counties until his passing. He also played a pivotal role in founding the PA (Palo Alto) Gin, which later merged with Kleberg County CO-OP. His love of the land and his unwavering work ethic were evident to all who knew him.

C.E. was deeply involved in his community and held memberships in various organizations, including St. Francis of Rome Catholic Church, Texas Exes, and the Knights of Columbus. He served on several agricultural committees and boards, reflecting his passion for farming and commitment to the agricultural industry.

If he wasn't on the farm or admiring his crops, you would find C.E. on the nearest golf course with a group of his good buddies. He didn't turn down a good game of golf unless it was during harvest, of course! He loved cheering on Texas Aggie football, embarking on trips to Costa Rica, and savoring moments with his cherished family and friends. He was a true Aggie at heart, filled with immeasurable pride to see his son, Grayson, wearing that Aggie gold! C.E. truly found joy in the simple moments of life.

A man of exceptional kindness and generosity, C.E. never met a stranger and was always willing to offer a helping hand. His warm smile and genuine demeanor touched the lives of all who crossed his path. His love and dedication to his family and friends and joyful spirit will be dearly missed. The family would like to extend their sincere gratitude to C.E.’s best friends who never left his side, were dedicated to getting him the best care possible, and supported his family in more ways than imaginable.
