Consuelo Rodriguez Obituary

Consuelo “Chelo” Rodriguez, age 76, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 12, 2021 at Doctors Regional Hospital in Corpus Christi, TX.  She was born on March 16, 1945 in Alice, TX to Librado Munoz and Refugia Resendez Munoz.

Chelo was a member of the cursillo movement, an active cursillista and choir member at St. Joseph Catholic Church. She enjoyed shopping and singing, especially with the Mariachis whenever the opportunity presented itself. Chelo brought joy and laughter to everyone around her; she was always the life of the party.

Chelo had a strong devotion to the blessed Virgin Mary and prayed the Rosary on a daily basis. She was part of a Rosary group that met weekly for over 30 years and hosted many in her own home while also leading the Rosary for others.

Chelo was a confidant and the embodiment of peace. She will always be remembered as a prayer warrior as many turned to her for advice, wisdom and prayers. She was a mother and caregiver to many, even as she, herself, was ill. In the last week of her life, she was still thinking of others, asking for them, offering prayers and always putting others first. Chelo was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend who was dearly loved and will be greatly missed by everyone who knew and loved her.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Librado and Refugia R. Munoz; loving husband of 49 years, Guadalupe Rodriguez; infant twin sister, Esperanza Munoz, brothers, Manuel Munoz, Librado Munoz, Jr., and Pablo Munoz; and sister, Mauricia “Wicha” Garza.

Those left to cherish her memory are her loving daughters, Anna Liza (Luis) Cavazos of Alice, TX; Marisela (Eddie) Hinojosa of San Antonio, TX, and Marissa (Rene) Esquivel of San Antonio, TX; grandchildren, Benjamin (Marissa) Cavazos and Jonathan Cavazos both of San Antonio, TX; great-grandchild, Alison Jade Cavazos; sisters, Hilda Acuna of Orange Grove, TX and Mary (Sam) Saenz of Victoria, TX; and numerous nieces and nephews who adored her.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Sunday, May 16, 2021 with a Holy Rosary to be recited at 7:30 PM at Holmgreen Mortuary, 2061 E. Main St, Alice, TX.
