It is with deep sadness we announce the passing of David Charles Herbert on Sunday, April 13, 2025, in Alice, Texas. He was born on November 11, 1946 in Alice, Texas to Lon Dalton Herbert and May Gouldsby Herbert.
David often told that he learned about electronics while in the United States Air Force especially when he was stationed in England. When he was working at creating and selling his circuit boards, he emphasized that he could make his living without leaving his home. He could order products and have UPS deliver, then have UPS pick up what he needed to send. His orders came from all over the world including Sweden, Norway and Finland. This was before Amazon and before other work-at-home was normal.
David’s wife needed special attention as well as his son and it helped tremendously that he could work from home. David had a garden filled with many varieties of peppers. He enjoyed creating his own hot sauces. David was a gourmet cook when it came to tamales. He was the best at this time-consuming preparation.
He often mentioned having Mrs. Sage as his first-grade teacher when he was five years old. Her classroom was in her home and he and Paul lived just down the street. And first grade lasted only half a day. He and the 10 or so students really enjoyed that year in school. There were 3 sets of twins in our class. Unlike some of his classmates, David must have really paid attention in class especially in high school because he did very well in English, English grammar, Math and Science. Some of us greatly admired his compassion. David and Paul made their own bicycles. For some reason they were not given bicycles so they just made their own. David often told joked and found the humorous side to most situations amid some sad situations that happen to all of us. He was very good at making others laugh and smile. He had hardships as a child and he had hardships later in family life, but he did his best for as long as he was able. He is to be especially remembered for that. Another special note is that he was also a big part of the 1965-1966 Williams Adams High School Class reunions where he was exceptional at managing the financial aspects.
David is preceded in death by his parents Lon Dalton and Mary G. Herbert; first wife Sharon Enyart Herbert; only son Troy Allen Herbert; and brothers Lon Franklin Herbert and James Dalton Herbert.
Loved ones left to cherish his memory are his twin brother Paul Lamar Herbert (Ruby); niece Paula Herbert; friends Eric and Melba Andersen; and caregivers Gracie Alvarez, and Lee Gross.
