David Wayne Mangrum, 73, of George West, Texas, passed away peacefully on May 8, 2024. Born on April 24,1951, in Alvin, Texas, David was the beloved son of Homer and Ellen Mangrum, and brother to Barbara Barcak. He grew up in Alvin, graduating from Alvin High School in 1969. Following in his father’s footsteps, David completed a two-year apprenticeship to become a welder. He was a proud member of the Pipefitter Local Union 211 for over 50 years, where his skills and dedication were highly respected. He retired from British Petroleum Amoco with over 20 years of service as a pipefitter and welder.
In 1985, David married the love of his life, Dianne Whitley, and together they shared many adventures. He was a devoted father to his daughter, Sarah Mangrum-Shapiro, and a caring stepfather to Lorri Ledford and Robi Stratton. He was further blessed with step-grandchildren Skyler Lowell and Hunter Schaefer, and step-greatgrandchildren Elle Lowell and Elijah Reyna. David was a man of many talents and passions. He was known for his love of animals. He enjoyed team roping, hunting, breeding and training hog hunting dogs. He used his creativity and welding expertise to create unique pieces of artwork. His commitment to his community was evident through his service on various board such as the Alvin Youth Live-Stock Arena Association and the Clegg Cemetery. He was actively involved with the Gulf Coast Donkey & Mule Association, American Donkey & Mule Association, Southwestern Donkey & Mule Association, American Quarter Horse Association, American Kennel Club, German Jagd Terrier Registry of America, United Kennel Club, and the United Team Ropers Association.
David is survived by his loving family: Dianne Mangrum, Jean Whitley, Joshua and Sarah Mangrum-Shapiro, Mike and Lorri Ledford, Jamie and Robin Stratton; Skyler and Sarah Lowell, Elle Lowell, Elijah Reyna, Hunter Schaefer and Jennifer Gomez, Barbara and Gene Barcak, Bruen and Patricia Goolsby, Chance and Logan Specht, Caroline Specht, Paisley Specht, Lloyd and Andrea Barcak, Lukas and Shelby Barcak, Belle Barcak, Fisher Barcak, Liberty Barcak, Andra Whittingslow, Kevin and Vaile Borges, and Eric Borges.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, June 14th, at 11:30 AM at Holmgreen Mortuary, located at 2061 E. Main, Alice, Texas 78332. Following the service, friends and family are invited to gather for a barbecue lunch at the fellowship hall.
David will be remembered for his vibrant personality, work ethic, and an unwavering loyalty to his family and friends. David Mangrum’s memory will forever be cherished by all who knew and loved him.
