Diamantina Hinojosa Obituary

Diamantina Vargas Hinojosa, age 85, passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 16, 2022 in Sandia, Texas. She was born April, 15, 1937 in Falfurrias, Texas to Augustin Vargas and Irene Lopez.

Diamantina was a praying, Christian who prayed for everyone especially, her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She always tried to do more, starting by opening a small store out of the house, selling snow cones and snacks. Eventually a room was added to the house and various items were added such as, frito pies, hamburgers, banana splits and basic essentials. She also did babysitting, house cleaning, dinner party meal preparations and serving for various families throughout her lifetime. She also enjoyed trash pickup with her husband in the Sandia area. She was known as “grandma” to many kids who are now adults with their own kids that still refer to her as “grandma”.

She was always so giving. She would have garage sales and basically gave most of the clothing and household items to people who were in need. Her favorite store was Dollar General where she loved shopping for good bargains. Diamantina had a commercial driver’s license, driving trucks in the cotton fields in her youth and also did bookkeeping for the cotton mill.

Diamantina was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Cliofas Hinojosa; parents, Augustin and Irene Vargas; brother, David Vargas, Sr.; sisters, Delfina Beltran, Delia Chapa and Dalia Benavides.

She is survived by daughters, Diana (Robert) Hernandez of Sandia, Texas, Frances Bailey of San Antonio, Texas, Sandy (Mario) Perez of Sandia, Texas, Belinda V. Hinojosa of Sandia, Texas and Cynthia Ann (Danny) Rodriguez of Sandia, Texas; sister, Yolanda (Chema) Cabrera of Premont, Texas; brother, Daniel (Delia) Vargas of Alice, Texas and Fernando (Diana) Vargas of Sandia, Texas; sister-in-law, Irma Vargas; brother-in-law, Samuel Chapa, Sr.; eleven grandchildren and fourteen greatgrandchildren.
