Don Ray McCloskey, age 80, was called home on Monday, July 4, 2022. He was born February 24, 1942 in Sandia, Texas to Azalea Inez and Samuel Emmett McCloskey.
He graduated from Orange Grove High School in 1962. On November 30, 1963, he married his high school sweetheart, Martha Wostal. They were married for 58 years and had three children, Don Ray McCloskey II, Lee Ann Richardson (Ron), Nicole Arnold (Clint).
Don loved to hunt, fish, dance and play poker with his friends. He served as an assistant coach for the Orange Grove Little League, Councilman on the Orange Grove City Council and was a Reserve Deputy Sheriff for Jim Wells County. He was employed as a Safety Supervisor, mostly in the oil and gas industry, before his retirement.
He is survived by his wife and children; sister, Joyce McCloskey (Kelly); brother, Sidney McCloskey; eight grandchildren, Ian McCloskey (Katie), Evan McCloskey, Aiden McCloskey, Kayla White (Darren), Erin Miller, Brenna Miller, Regan Kearns (Alan), Jason Arnold and step-granddaughter, Charlotte Richardson.
The love he had for his family was the greatest joy of his life.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM on Sunday, July 10, 2022 with a Holy Rosary to be recited at 7:30 PM at Holmgreen Mortuary, 2061 E. Main St. in Alice, Texas. A Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 AM on Monday, July 11, 2022 at St. John of the Cross Catholic Church, 200 S Metz St, Orange Grove, TX 78372. Interment will follow at St. John of the Cross Cemetery.
Honored to serve as pallbearers will be Ian McCloskey, Evan McCloskey, Aiden McCloskey, Jason Arnold, Darren White and Alan Kearns.
