Donna Yancey Obituary

Donna Black Yancey, age 69, passed away Tuesday, December 7, 2021, surrounded by her loving family. She was born February 17, 1952, in Corpus Christi, TX, to Kizetta and Logan Black.

Donna grew up in Corpus Christi, TX, and graduated from Calallen High School, Class of 1970. She went on to attend college at the University of Texas, Austin, and received her Master’s at Texas A&I, Kingsville. She married her loving husband, Charles Edward Yancey on June 12, 1976, at Grace United Methodist Church, Corpus Christi, TX. On October 8, 1981, she welcomed her oldest daughter, Renee Elizabeth Yancey; on February 2, 1983, her mother’s birthday, she welcomed her youngest daughter, Rebecca Anne Yancey. She taught at Alice High School, worked with children at the Alice Public Library, and taught elementary special education in Alice, ISD until her retirement in 2013. She was a dedicated servant of God and served in many church activities, especially Youth Club for her girls, while living in Alice, TX. On May 25, 2014, she welcomed her first grandson, Jimmy Wallace; on May 31, 2016, she welcomed her second grandson, Logan Wallace. She loved her grandchildren with all her heart and enjoyed being their Nena.

Donna supported her girls in everything they wanted to try, serving as a leader in PTA, 4-H, swim team, and all their different activities. She loved playing Bunco every month with her friends. She was an amazing, loving, caring wife and best friend, mother, Nena, aunt, cousin, and friend. She will be truly missed by all who loved and knew her.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Logan and Kizetta Black; mother and father-in-law, James and Maxine Yancey; her brother, David Bruce Black; her sister-in-law, Sue Yancey; and many special family members who welcomed her into Heaven.

She is survived by her loving husband of 45 years, Charles Yancey of Alice, TX; daughter, Renee Yancey of Boston, MA; daughter, Rebecca (Jay) Wallace, and her grandsons Jimmy and Logan Wallace, of San Antonio, TX; her brother, Gene (Betty) Black of Corpus Christi, TX; her brother-in-law, Chet (Diane) Yancey of Yuma, AZ; sister -in-law, Dianne (Jim) Shelton, of St. Augustine, FL; and nieces, nephews, and many wonderful friends.

Family will receive friends on Thursday, December 16, 2021, from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Holmgreen Mortuary Chapel. A Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 AM on Friday, December 17, 2021, at Holmgreen Mortuary Chapel in Alice, Texas. Burial will held at 1:00 PM at Coastal Bend State Veterans Cemetery in Corpus Christi, Texas.

Arrangements are entrusted to Holmgreen Mortuary, 2061 East Main Street, Alice, Texas.
