Douglas R. Goetzel

Douglas R. Goetzel, age 88, passed away peacefully on Friday, December 25, 2020 at his home in Alice, Texas.

He was born in Dale, Texas on April 9, 1932 to Henry Albert and Nannie Ella Goetzel.

Douglas retired from Welex after 35 years of service as an assistant district manager. He was a devoted husband who enjoyed being outdoors whether it was working in his yard or hunting, fishing, golfing, and woodworking. Douglas loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He and his wife, Mary, frequently traveled to Elko, Nevada and Windover, Utah.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Douglas will always be remembered by his loving wife of 67 years, Mary Goetzel of Alice, TX; children, Jimmy (Norma) Goetzel of Sinton, TX and Janice Haggerton (Frankie Eicholz) of Port Aransas, TX; grandchildren, Emily (Lucas) Lang, Christopher (D’Andrea) Goetzel, Haleigh (Collin) Almquist, and Holden (Hayley) Haggerton; great-grandchildren, Brenley Goetzel, Jensen Goetzel, Levi Lang, Tucker Lang, Axel Almquist, Adelynn Almquist, Porter Haggerton, Harper Haggerton, and Ella Haggerton; siblings, Patsy Brundrett of San Antonio, TX, Sue De La Cruz of Alice, TX, and Anne (Jesse) Leathers of Alice, TX.

Family receiving friends from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM on Wednesday, December 30, 2020 at Holmgreen Mortuary, located at 2061 E. Main St. Alice, TX. Graveside Service will be held at 11:00 AM at Alice Cemetery.
