Elizabeth Jean “Jeanie” Klatt age 76 went to be with the lord on July 3, 2024. Jeanie was born on February 28, 1948 in Dallas, Texas to Elizabeth Seymour Sullivan and John L Sullivan. They soon moved to Alice, Texas where she graduated from William Adams High School. She then graduated from Southwest Texas State University where she attended alongside her loving husband of 54 years Gordon Klatt Jr. A year after graduation, she and Gordon moved to Orange Grove, Texas where she was a first-grade teacher for 44 years. Teaching children to read was her specialty, devoting countless extra hours working with children after to school to ensure that they could read and continue to progress in their academic future. Jeanie would always say “if you cannot read you cannot learn no matter what the subject matter.” When not teaching, she enjoyed playing bridge each Thursday, in addition to reading a book or two a week on the front porch after putting Will and Joe to bed. She also loved to travel with Gordon and their multitude of wonderful friends every time that they could get away to many destinations throughout the U.S. She and Gordon never met a casino that they didn’t like! Jeanie’s kind, passionate, loving soul will be missed by all who knew her; however, her spirit lives on within us and in Heaven. She was a devout Christian who served in many capacities at the church including teaching Sunday School and Vacation Bible School for many years at First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Orange Grove.
Jeanie was preceded in death by her parents Elizabeth “Betty” Sullivan and John L. Sullivan.
She is survived by her husband Gordon Klatt Jr.; two sons, Will (Kate) Klatt and Joe (Cassie) Klatt; four grandsons, Will Klatt Jr., Hughes Klatt, Wesley Klatt and Case Klatt; two brothers, John (Judy) Sullivan and Fred (Aurora) Sullivan; one sister Margaret (Doug) Chiles plus many nieces and nephews that she loved dearly.
The family would like to thank Christina Ochoa, a true angel, for coming into Jeanie’s life four years ago. The family can never say “thank you” enough for the loving care and friendship that she brought into Jeanie’s life during her battle with Alzheimer’s.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations to First Evangelical Lutheran Church, P.O. Box 605, Orange Grove, Texas 78372.
