Enrique “Henry” B. Carabajal passed away on Wednesday, August 24, 2022, at the age of 91. Henry died peacefully with his family by his side.
Henry was born in Goliad, Texas on May 5, 1931, to his father, Alejandro Carabajal, and mother, Lucy Baldez. Henry was their only son and had two sisters, Gloria and Margaret. Henry graduated from Goliad High School and joined the US Air Force at 18 years old. Before leaving abroad, Henry met the love of his life, Katie P. Garcia. Henry served in the Air Force from July 6, 1949, to December 12, 1952. Once he returned to Goliad, Henry and Katie wed on June 27, 1953. He served the federal government and Corpus Christi Army Depot for 34 years and retired on November 29, 1986. Henry and Katie made a home for themselves in Agua Dulce, Texas, where they raised seven children. Family was the most important part of Henry’s life. Once retired, he spent his time picking up grandchildren from school, enjoying family barbecues with his sons and daughters, watching the Dallas Cowboys, and caring for his wife.
Henry was preceded in death by his parents, wife Katie G. Carabajal; sister, Gloria (James) Deily and two sons, Robert L. (Janie) Carabajal and Frank G. (Linda) Carabajal.
He is survived by his sister, Margaret (Joe) Del Prado; children, Joe (Carmen) Carabajal, Beatrice “Bea” (Benino) Rodriguez, Vivian (Manual) Ortiz, Katie “Kathy” A. De La Garza, and Lucy A. Carabajal; 18 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM with a Chapel service to follow on Sunday, August 28, 2022, at Holmgreen Mortuary, 2061 E. Main St. Alice, Texas 78332. All service will conclude at the funeral home.
