Estella V. Sanchez

Estella V. Sanchez, age 81, passed away on Friday, September 3, 2021 in Alice, TX. She was born on February 19, 1940 in Puerto Rico, TX to Santos Valdez and Guadalupe Sanchez Valdez.

Estella battled cancer for 13 years she was a real trooper; she never stopped fighting for all her children she brought into this world. She began working in the fields picking cotton at the tender age of 4 on the family ranch. She made a name for herself building her own RANCH HOUSE from scratch. Then she moved to Alice, TX and built a beautiful legacy when they opened a convenience store/gas station named, Wood Creek Grocery. Estella always had an eye for business and saw an opportunity when the highway went through and built rental properties. She had a very successful life living off her rental income. Lastly, she was an avid animal lover, enjoyed tending to her garden, gambling, but her greatest joy was her family.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Santos Valdez and Guadalupe Sanchez Valdez; baby Sanchez; twin daughters, Geneva and Jeanette Sanchez; grandsons, Ruben Lopez and Miguel Marquez; brother, Rafael Valdez; and sisters, Margarita Solis and Olga Espinoza.

Estella is survived by her loving husband of 50 years, Leonel Sanchez of Alice, TX; children, Maria Berta (Robert) Wing of Corpus Christi, TX, Jose Manuel (Judith) Santos of Killeen, TX, Jorge Carlos (Aida) Santos of McAllen, TX, Angelica Santos of Alice, TX, Martin (Marylou) Santos of Universal City, TX, Blanca Estella (Juan) Marquez of Alice, TX, Anna Lisa Sanchez of Alice, TX, and Meliza Sanchez of San Antonio, TX; sisters, Irma Valdez of Linn, TX, Emma Valdez of Edinburg, TX, and Reyes Casarez of Edinburg, TX; 26 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; 4 great-great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM on Tuesday, September 7, 2021 with a Holy Rosary to be recited at 7:00 PM at Holmgreen Mortuary, 2061 E. Main St. Alice, TX. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 9:30 AM on Wednesday, September 8, 2021 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. A Christian Burial will follow at Alice Cemetery.
