Our beautiful, beloved and devoted mother, grandmother and great grandmother, Florence Darlene Griffin Hair, better known as Nana went home to her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Friday, December 13, 2024 at 11:23 pm, at age 86, surrounded by her large and loving family. She was born in Woodsboro, TX on September 13, 1938 to Wilma Adela Roberts Webster and Haskell Daniel Webster.
She graduated from Agua Dulce High School, at age 16, where she was a twirler and, according to her was the best basketball, volleyball and softball player and married soon after. She had a love of the great outdoors and was an avid hunter and fisherman. She loved spending time at her home on the Flying R Ranch, in Spring Branch, TX watching and naming the species of birds, hunting on her property located outside of Cotulla, TX and fishing at her home located in the Port Aransas Marina. She could out hunt and fish any man and didn’t mind letting them know it, winning a number of fishing tournaments. Although she suffered the loss of her parents, two husbands, a newborn baby and her sister, she persevered with grace, dignity and joy. She always had a huge smile on her face and a belly laugh no one will ever forget. She was a strong, independent woman who had a love of learning, attending secretarial school, beauty school (coming home with a different color of hair every day) and finally earning her college degree as an elementary school teacher at age 48. Her most prized and cherished blessing was the gift of her 4 children, 11 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren. She loved them deeply and they definitely were aware of it. She was in attendance at almost every birth and she taught us, by example, the value of a strong, close, loving family. As we learned, later in life, she was not just a mom to us, our home was place where family and friends were welcome at all times, filled with heartfelt love, joy, laughter, fun, a place of stability and assurance. It was a refuge, not only for us but also for our friends as they faced trying times in their lives or if they just wanted to come and have fun. However there was always a caveat. “Yes you all can do that, but first they have to do this or that chore, you’re welcome to stay if you want.” They always stayed. Her words of wisdom were not filled with guidance, sophistication or necessarily biblical, but simply blessed assurance. “This is all going to be okay, now let’s go have some fun.” She did not do any of this out of duty or responsibility. She did this out of deep, heartfelt love, devotion and a little bit of craziness that filled her heart and soul.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her young child, Mark Joseph, her first husband of 34 years, George William Griffin (Buddy), her second husband of 20 years, Dudley Martin Hair, her sister, Jaqueline Adela Webster Rouse.
She is survived by her daughters Vicki Griffin Harper (Steve), Lesli Griffin Coody (Ron), Lacey Griffin Wostal (Lonnie) and her son George Web Griffin. Her grandchildren, Allison Harper Jordan (Zach), Brandi Harper Gardner (Reed), Ashlee Harper Lee (Justin), Whitney Harper Park (Walter), Griffin Coody Scherer (Brian), Travis Coody, Lance Wostal (Lacey), Landon Wostal, Brittney Griffin Hogan (Kenny), Carly Griffin Blomfield (Jacob), George William Griffin “Buddy” (Kelly) and her 23 great grandchildren. Grace, Ellis, Alex, Harper, Leighton, Greer, Bennett, Webb, Lila, Palmer, Seis, Scottie, Carson, Kinsley, Kailey, Haston, Harrison, Hollis, Atticus, Legend, Lily, Everly and Paisley.
A celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, December 21, 2024 , at Holmgreen Mortuary Chapel in Alice,TX at 1:00 pm. Visitation will be one hour prior to service. followed by Burial at Alice Cemetery. Reception to follow burial at the home of Lacey and Lonnie Wostal in Orange Grove, TX
