Helen Steindorf Beams Obituary

It is with great sadness we announce that Helen (Steindorf) Beams, 96, departed this life peacefully on September 25, 2025. She was born June 22, 1929 to Edwin Steindorf and Rosie (Strakos) Steindorf in Weesatche, Texas.

Helen’s early childhood days were spent in Port Lavaca, Texas, Alfred, Texas, and Alice, Texas. Helen married John M. (Jim) Beams in 1946 after Jim returned from active duty in WWII. Helen and Jim were happily married for 56 years. They had four children; Judy Beams Gilbreth Shirley Beams Keenan, John M Beams. Jr., and Leonard Scott Beams. They enjoyed close family ties with each of Helen’s brothers and sisters in Alice, TX. Helen along with her sister Hilda, worked at the W&M café on Johnson St. in Alice, TX as waitresses at the time of her matrimony. Helen was also employed at the Jim Wells County Court House in the County Clerk’s office before moving to Corpus Christi, Texas in 1975. She then worked at the Nueces County Tax Assessor’s Office until she retired.

She was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church on Texas Blvd in Alice and the Trinity Lutheran Church in Corpus Christi, Texas. She loved the Lord and did daily bible readings and studies. She traveled to Jerusalem in 2009 with the 1 st United Methodist Church in Corpus Christi, Texas for 10 days. She renewed her vows to Christ by being baptized in the Jordan River. She enjoyed all of her family. Her immediate family along with her brothers and sisters. Family get togethers were a staple event every Thanksgiving, Christmas and Easter.

After her husband Jim Beams passed away, she moved to Solstice Assisted Living in Corpus Christi. She enjoyed all the activities, had many friends and lived there for 14 years. She continued close contact with all her family members.

Helen was preceded in death by her husband, Jim Beams (2003); daughters, Shirley Beams Keenan (2003), Judy Beams Gilbreath (2019) and John M. Beams Jr. (2023); brother Bert Steindorf; and sisters Carol Steindorf, Hilda Choate Dorek and Susie Spaniels.

She is survived by her son, Leonard Scott Beams; brothers, Roy Steindorf (Kathleen) and Larry Steindord; grandchildren, Kaylee Beams, Scott Beams, Jr. and Tiffany Evans; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

If you ever met Helen, you were not only touched by her but also by the Lord. A special thanks to all of her friends at Solstice Staff through the 14 years that Helen resided there.

"Her children arise up, And call her blessed; Her husband also, and he praiseth her."
