Helma Currie

Our beloved mother Helma Lina Currie passed away on May 2nd in Alice, Texas at the age of 96, after a long and full life.  She was born December 7, 1926, in Wiesbaden-Biebrich, Germany to Karl Hermann Böhnlein and Lina Maria Pauline Weber Böhnlein.

In Germany, Helma met JT Currie and at the age of 21, she came to America to be married.  After the marriage, she began to learn and speak more fluent English.  After some time, she adapted to the foods, clothing, and living styles America had to offer.  She was a loving mother, a pillar of our family, and the last of a generation.  She will be dearly missed.  Helma had an infectious smile and laugh that blessed those around her.  She enjoyed reading, crocheting, quilting, and visiting with family and friends.  Both of which she kept well supplied in house shoes and desserts.  She was fast to give advice when asked.  Among her many wise sages was “always do your best and don’t be afraid to try new things”.

Helma was predeceased by her husband JT “Jack” Currie, as well as his 12 siblings and their spouses. 

She is survived by her two sons: Carl Gene Currie and wife Elizabeth McBurnett Currie of La Vernia, and Michael Lee Currie of Alice; two grandsons: Carl Andrew Currie and wife Sharon, and David Alan Currie and wife Samantha; 5 great grandchildren: Caleb Todd Fellers and his wife Lex, Aaron Curtis Fellers, Scarlett Elizabeth Currie, Charlie Anne Currie, and David Alastor Rhys Currie; and 2 great-great grandchildren: Corbin Neal Black and Hannah Lynn Fellers.

A Memorial Service will be held in her honor at 10:00 AM on Friday, June 2, 2023 at Roselawn Memorial Park.
