Henry Acuña, Sr. Obituary

In loving memory and in great celebration of someone who made the world a better place.  It is with somber and sorrowed hearts that the Acuña family announces the passing of Henry T. Acuña, Sr., age 82, of Rockport, Texas, September 11, 2021.  Henry was born in San Antonio, Texas to †Clara Trevino and †Aurelio Mora Acuña (A.M.A.). 

Henry worked alongside his brothers and sisters in the family business that his father Aurelio Mora Acuña and Clara Acuña, started in 1929, A.M.A Body Shop and Garage, located at 720 Pleasanton Road, San Antonio, Texas. Henry took over the family business in 1968 with his father acting as his advisor. The business grew and they purchased 4 acres at 3813 Pleasanton Road in San Antonio, Texas. They manufactured easy-9 auto haulers, dump trucks, flatbed trailers and donated the first Mobile Library to Mayor Lila Cockrell on behalf of The City of San Antonio. A.M.A., Enterprises, Inc., grew to be the largest South Texas Dump Body Manufacturing Company and Garage in the State of Texas. Henry retired from A.M.A., in 1998 to Rockport, Texas.

Henry was preceded in death by his loving wife, †Rebecca Acuña, who passed away March 25, 2020, of Rockport, Texas, at age 74.  Rebecca was born in Losoya, Texas to †Guadalupe V. Saldivar and †Ascension C. Saldivar.

Rebecca loved cooking and bringing lunch to her husband, his brothers, and sisters at work every day. She was a devoted, loving, charismatic, wife, and mother, active in the Schulze PTA, Boy Scouts of America, Girl Scouts of America, Kingsborough Middle School PTA, and Mc Collum High School PTA. She received the Harlandale Independent School District, Chapter 2 Family Involvement in Education Award in 1990.  She loved dancing like nobody was watching, Big Red, children, petticoats, scary movies, Betty Bop, and Blue Bell Ice Cream.

Henry and Becky fell in love and were married on March 14, 1962, they were married a total of 58 wonderful years full of children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, work, dancing, traveling, laughter, and smiles. They loved vacationing in Rockport, Texas and fishing in Port Aransas, Texas off the Gulf of Mexico with the entire family. They were loved and will be greatly missed, gone too soon. 

They are survived by their loving children; two sons Henry, Jr., William Henry, and daughter, (former) Judge Yolanda Acuña-Uresti, (Nana); his brothers, Willie, Antonio, Aurelio Jr., †Johnny, and †Ernest; sisters, Patsy, Gloria, and Viola. Her brothers, Refugio, Ezequiel; sisters, Lupe, Josie Teresa, and Maria; five grandchildren, Michael, Carlos, Jr., Joshua, Anthony, and Marissa; five great-grandchildren Benjamin, Evan, Juliet, Teriana, Macsen; and countless nieces, nephews, and friends throughout San Antonio and Texas alike.

A Graveside Service will be held at 1:00 PM on Thursday, September 30, 2021, at San Fernando Cemetery #2 in San Antonio, Texas.

Arrangements are entrusted to Holmgreen Mortuary, 2061 East Main Street, Alice, Texas.
