Illene Childress Stanwood our precious mother, grandmother, great-grand mother, great great-grand mother, and aunt passed away on August 21, 2021 at the age of 91. She was born on November 16, 1929 in Reydon, Oklahoma to Cecil and Maureen Childress.
She moved with her family to the Texas panhandle as an infant and eventually moving to south Texas where she spent the majority of her life. After she retired, she moved from Corpus to Sandia in the early 1980s and enjoyed working at Zephyr Baptist Camp for several years. She was an active member of West Shore Baptist Church for many years. In September of 2020, she went to live at Premier Nursing facility, her family wishes to express our heart-felt appreciation to the staff for their kindness and thoughtful care while she lived at the facility. In her final days, she was admitted to the hospital in Alice and we also wish to thank the doctors and nurses for their kindness during her last moments
She was preceded in death by her husband, Murry Stanwood; parents, Cecil and Maureen Childress; brother, Johnny Paige Childress; and sister, Shirley Rush.
Survivors include her son, Johnnye (Regina) Mabery of Orange Grove Texas; daughters, Paula (Larry) Williams of Kemp, Texas; and Linda (Tommy) Rakowitz of George West, Texas; grandchildren, Gayla (Garren) Lain, Tammy Maddox, Lori (Earnie) Glaspie, Kellye (Aaron) Yount, Tonya (Matthew) Richter, Matthew (Melissa) Mabery, TJ (Tiffany) Rakowitz; 22 great-grandchildren, two great great-grandchildren; two nephews, Michael (Patti) Journey and Richard (Stella) Journey; and her only niece, Rebecca Rush.
