James Lambert " J.L." Rush

On Saturday, April 15, 2023, James Lambert (“J.L.” as everyone called him) Rush, husband, loving father, pawpaw to many, and friend to all, passed away at the age of 90. 

James Lambert Rush “J.L.”, was born on September 29, 1932, in Mirando City, Tx to Charles Edward Rush and Grace Lucille Brannan. James was the oldest of three sisters and one brother.  

After graduating from high school, J.L. tried the popular option in the oilfield and decided that wasn’t the way to go. He went to work for a company named C.P.&L. J.L. went from climbing an electrical pole to running crews, dedicating the rest of his employment days until retiring in 1995.  J.L. was not one to sit still, he then went to work for JLM Construction, a family business, building Hobby Lobby and Walmart's all over the US until 2006. After 2006, J.L. was busy being the local handy man. From building extra rooms to hanging a fan he was there and was always willing to do it for someone. To everyone else J.L. was just a phone call and jingle of keys away. In his free time J.L. loved to hunt, (hunt not really being the word because he never shot), fish, gamble, and again work (it was always his lifestyle). James was a huge family man, he never missed a minute, if it included them. He never missed a game or an important event. J.L. had a huge heart and never said no. 

 James was preceded in death by his parents, wife (Shirley C. Rush), one son (Cecil Journey), three sisters, Lou Risley, Charlene Alice Boyer and Barbara Sue Landry and one grandchild (Drew Journey). 
 
 J.L is survived by his companion of 8 years, Irma Rodriquez; one brother, Bill Rush; two sons and their families; Jerry Lee Rush (Jackie, Brock, Curtis, James), Steve Rush (Liz, Crystal, Michael Steve Jr.); one daughter and her family, Rebecca Ann Rush (Wayne, Brannon, Haley, Amber, Luke, & Emily); two step sons and their families; Gary Michael Journey (Patti) and Johnnie Richard Journey (Stella, David); 14 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren along with nieces and nephews. 

A Visitation will be held from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Friday, April 21, 2023 at Holmgreen Mortuary. A Chapel Service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, April 22, 2023 at Holmgreen Mortuary. Burial will follow at Alice Cemetery.
