We sadly announce the peaceful passing of James "Jim" Webb on February 3, 2025, just a few days shy of his 77th birthday. Born on February 8, 1948, Jim was a beacon of calmness, honesty, and reliability, never failing to show up for his family whenever he was needed.
Jim is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Debra Webb; his mother, Evelyn Webb; his four devoted adult children: Angela (Matt) Devore, Daymon (Jamie) Webb, Jeremy (Misty) Webb and Bethany (Shawn) Kendrick as well as eight grandchildren; Allison & Grayson Devore; Mason & Hannah Webb, Jered (Samantha) Webb, Jenna Webb (Chris Priddy) and Kyle & Emily Kendrick. Last, but certainly not least, are the three great-grandchildren: Julia Priddy and siblings Joslyn & Jaxon Webb.
Jim was predeceased by his father, E.A. Webb, his brother, Richard Webb, and his sister, Linda Stier.
Jim was a Vietnam War veteran who demonstrated the courage and fortitude to fight for our country, taking on enemy fire and earning his revered Purple Heart medal. In the early '80s, Jim's dream of living in the country became a reality when he and Debra sold their Corpus Christi home and settled in the little town of Orange Grove. Enjoying a lengthy career as an automotive mechanic, Jim easily became the "go-to" guy whenever you needed an honest opinion about your vehicle. He was always a wealth of knowledge and unparalleled in skill.
After retirement, he began to fall back on his military training and love of nature. Soon, anyone needing a remedy for a cold, an ear infection, or other common ailment would turn to Jim for his homemade, natural remedies that never seemed to disappoint. Always wearing his signature "army green" colored shirts, Jim found great joy in being a true naturopath by embracing the healing energy and spirit of the great outdoors. He could easily live off the grid, harnessing alternative energy like solar power. He loved to tinker with various electronics, which led to his collection of CB and weather radios, along with a massive collection of flashlights and other gadgets. And if you ever needed a battery? Look no further than Papa and his never-ending stash of rechargeables!
As his children grew up and created families of their own, Jim discovered his true life's calling—being a grandfather! His love for his grandchildren and great-grandchildren was ever apparent and soon everyone in the family simply referred to him as Papa. As he enjoyed his golden years, it was perfectly normal to see this often quiet, somber man laughing with his grand babies down on the floor, sharing a snack while watching cartoons, or even playing with Barbies or toy cars alongside them in the playpen. This was what Papa lived for—being a loving and supportive parent and grandparent!
Throughout all his many accomplishments in life, his love and devotion to his family will truly remain his legacy.
A graveside service will be held Friday, February 7th, 2025, at 11:00 AM at the Sons of Hermann Cemetery on County Road 351 in Orange Grove. Join us as we honor this great hero and loving family man.
We love you, Papa. Until we meet again...
