Jerome Podest Obituary

Jerome Peter Podest, 87, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and uncle, peacefully departed this life to join his loving Creator and reunite for eternity with his beloved wife, Carol. He was called home on Monday, November 29, 2021, in San Antonio, Texas. He was born in Agua Dulce, Texas to the late Agnes Malik and Peter Paul Podest.

Jerome was born and raised in Agua Dulce and graduated from Agua Dulce High School early at the age of 16 as Salutatorian of his class. After graduation, Jerome joined the Army and served two years as a MP and was stationed at various locations including Fort Polk, LA and Fort Chaffee in Ft. Smith, AR. After his service, Jerome returned to Agua Dulce and became a prominent member of the community. He served as a volunteer firefighter, was a Partner in Prasek’s Café and in 1963 opened the Exxon Gas Station. Jerome later opened an Exxon in Alice where he operated a successful full-service station for over 3 decades.

Jerome had many interests and was an entrepreneur at heart. Owning many businesses throughout the communities of Aqua Dulce and Alice. His passions included the love for his family, his faith and St. Elizabeth Catholic Church, Coyote football, BBQ, ranching, gardening, fishing trips with family and friends. He took much joy and pride in leading the annual St. Elizabeth Fall Fest BBQ Picnic for many years.

Jerome most loved his precious wife Carol, and his beloved daughter, Suzan who was always by his side. They enjoyed numerous family vacations to Las Vegas and skiing in Colorado with family and friends. Jerome always had a special place in his heart for his two grandchildren, Chase & Miranda. Most recently, his great-granddaughter, Hadley, was the apple of his eye. He remained close with his three siblings, Vladimir, Betty, and Patsy. Jerome touched the lives of numerous friends throughout his life.

Treasured memories are left in the hearts of his beloved daughter, Suzan DuPree and son-in-law Shane DuPree of Dallas, Texas, his two grandchildren who were his pride and joy, Chase (Layney) DuPree of McKinney, Texas; Miranda (Aric) Lopez of Las Colinas, Texas and his little angel, great-granddaughter Hadley DuPree. In addition, Jerome leaves behind three loving siblings, Vladimir (Betty) Podest of Longview, Texas, Betty (Emil) Mach of Longview, Texas, and Patsy (Thomas) Busenlehner of Robstown, Texas, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins he loved very much.

Family will receive friends on Thursday, December 2, 2021, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Holmgreen Mortuary Chapel with Holy Rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, December 3, 2021, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Alice, Texas. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park in Alice, Texas.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to St. Elizabeth Catholic Church, 603 W. Fifth St., Alice, Texas 78332.

Arrangements are entrusted to Holmgreen Mortuary, 2061 East Main Street, Alice, Texas.
