With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Jesse Fred Lira Jr., a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, who was born on December 16, 1937, and passed away peacefully on December 19, 2025. A devoted family man, Jesse found his greatest joy in the people he loved and spent as much time as possible with his family, creating memories that will be cherished forever.
He loved the outdoors and could often be found fishing, hunting, or enjoying a round of golf. Known as a true jack of all trades, Jesse had a remarkable ability to fix, build, or help with just about anything. He was always willing to lend a hand and never hesitated to help those in need. Fred was a lifelong Bishop Badgers fan who proudly watched his sons’ and grandsons’ games and never missed a single one.
Fred devoted a majority of his life to working at the Celanese Ticona Plant in Bishop, Texas. He worked for Arthur Brothers Construction and Mundy as a foreman with the civil division. He demonstrated a lifelong commitment to hard work and craftsmanship. His strong work ethic, leadership, and dependability earned him the respect and admiration of coworkers and friends alike.
He was preceded in death by his father, Federico Lira, and his mother, Augustina Lira.
He is survived by his beautiful wife, Olivia Lira. Jesse shared 58 beautiful years of marriage with his beloved wife, whose love and partnership meant everything to him. Together, they built a strong and loving family. He is also survived by his children, Jessica (Freddy) Gaona, Jesse III (Rosie) Lira, and James (Keely) Lira; his grandchildren, AJ (Victoria) Gaona, Jesse IV (Christina), Jason (Sidney) Gaona, Jamin Lira, and Jadyn Lira, Fisher Davis, Noah Davis and his nine great-grandchildren; one sister, Marilu Lira; his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law; and his many nieces and nephews.
Jesse will be remembered for his kindness, generosity, and unwavering love for his family. His presence, guidance, and laughter will be deeply missed, but his memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to Altus Hospice for the care and comfort they provided. A special thank you to Moses Ovalle, Brianna McKee and Daniela Deleon for their compassion and loving care during this time, as well as to Maria Gutierrez and Janie Ortiz, his devoted caregivers.

A Holy Rosary is to be recited Tuesday, December 23, 2025 at 10:00 AM with a Funeral Mass to be held at 11:00 AM at St. James Catholic Church, 603 West 3rd Street, Bishop, Texas. A burial will follow at St.James Cemetery.
