John Calvin Slayton, age 89 passed away peacefully in his home on Sunday, July 14, 2024 in Alice Texas. He was born on September 18, 1934 to Everett Duval and Opal Smith Slayton in Benavides, Texas.
John proudly served in the United States Naval Reserve, and was honorably discharged in 1960. Shortly after John reunited with the love of his life and married Wilma. They were happily married for 63 years. John began working in the oilfield industry and retired from Schlumberger with more than 30 years of service. John loved to wrench on cars and motorcycles. He was mechanically inclined, and could disassemble and reassemble just about anything you put in front of him. After retirement John built his own personal three-wheeler. John and his brothers enjoyed riding out to West Texas, where they enjoyed spending time together in the outdoors. John was a caring husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. He loves spending time with his wife, children, and grandchildren. His family has so many amazing memories which they will cherish forever. He will always have a special place in each of their hearts.
John was preceded in death by his parents; wife of 63 years Wilma C. Slayton; brother Richard Slayton.
John is survived by his children, John David Slayton of New Braunfels, Texas and Gina Slayton (James) Odendahl of Georgetown, Texas; grandchildren, John Ryan (Bianca) Slayton, Brandon (Bia) Slayton, Gracen (Walker) Ritchie and Spencer Odendahl. Great grandchildren, Aubree G. Slayton, Joaquin R. Slayton, Emilia R. Slayton, Calvin J. Slayton, and Millie Grace Ritchie; brother Charles Slayton of Alice Texas.

A Visitation will be held on Saturday, July 20, 2024 from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM at Holmgreen Mortuary Chapel with a Holy Rosary to be recited at 1:00 PM. Burial with Military Honors will follow at Alice Cemetery.
