Jose Francisco “Joe Frank” Garza, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great‑grandfather, educator, and longtime district attorney, passed away peacefully on July 10, 2025, surrounded by his family at his home in Alice, Texas. He is survived by his loving wife, Hilda Muñoz Garza; his son, Rene F. Garza (Soledad); his daughter, Rina Guerra (Richard); his grandchildren, Avery and Bruno Martinez; his great‑granddaughter, Eleanor Jolie Martinez; and his siblings, Rosalinda Muñoz ( Joe), Belinda Bowen (David+), and Arnoldo Garza. He is preceded in death by his father, Francisco Ruiz Garza; his mother, Josefa González Garza; and his brother, Ovidio Garza (survived by wife Linda.)
Born on September 6, 1946, in Alice, Texas, Joe Frank was a proud alumnus of Texas A&I University–Kingsville and Texas Southern University. He began his professional journey as an educator with Alice ISD, eventually serving as Director of the Adult Education Program, where he helped countless adults achieve their academic goals. Achieving a lifelong dream, he earned his law degree and he built a distinguished legal career. Joe Frank was the longtime District Attorney for Jim Wells and Brooks counties—where he served with compassion and an unwavering commitment to his community.
Joe Frank found joy in life’s simple pleasures. He tended his lawn with pride, kept up with current events, and never missed an opportunity to unwind with a classic western. His barbecue ribs and chicken were the highlight of family gatherings, but nothing meant more to him than sharing laughter, stories, and memories with those he loved most.
As a husband, Hilda, his beautiful wife of 55 years, was the love of his life and he was her constant companion—warmly attentive, quick with a joke, and always ready to lend a hand. At home he was known as "Popo" and his grandchildren Avery, Bruno, and great‑granddaughter Eleanor were his pride and joys.
His warmth, wisdom, and generosity touched all who knew him, and his legacy of service, and family devotion will live on in the hearts of everyone he inspired.
