Joyce Spaniel

Joyce “Susie” (Steindorf) Park Spaniel, 39 ¼ , departed this life peacefully on June 11, 2025. She was born on January 1, 19##, to Edwin Steindorf and Amelia Rose Strakos Steindorf in Port Lavaca, Calhoun County, Texas, and was the fourth of their seven children.

Susie was married in 1976 to Eugene Louis Spaniel of Beeville, Texas.  They were married for 42 years before Gene passed away in 2019.  Previously, Susie was married to William “Bill” R. Park of Alice, TX.  They had two children:  Kirby W. Park - deceased, and Susan Park Green of Floresville, Texas.  Susie was a long-time employee of Heldt Bros. Trucks as their Safety and Insurance Specialist.  After Heldt Bros Trucks closed their doors, she went to work for Buckhorn Storage Company in Alice as their office manager where she continued to work until March, 2025.

A member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Alice, TX, she enjoyed her bible studies, singing in the choir, being part of the Praise Team and a frequent greeter each Sunday.  Anyone who knew Susie, knew her love of the “oompah” bands, music and dances.  She always said her favorite compliment was “Dancing with you is like dancing with myself.”  She loved a good game of cards, dominoes or just simply socializing.

She cherished the time spent with her extended family, to whom she gave her love, strength, and devotion. She mourned the losses of her sister, Hilda Choate Doreck, brother, Bert Steindorf and her sister, Carol Steindorf, and maintained close contact with her surviving siblings: Helen (Jim) Beams, Roy (Kathleen) Steindorf and Larry Steindorf, and with her nieces and nephews.  

Susie is survived by her daughter, grandsons Gavin (Teresa) Green of Floresville, Garet Green of San Antonio, and great grandsons Curtis Green, and Beau Green, and bonus great granddaughters Gabriella Alvarado and Marleyna Alvarado.  She was preceded in death by her son Kirby W. Park, nephews Jerry Choate, Bert Steindorf, Jr., John M.  Beams, Jr., Richard Scott Stiltner, and nieces Judy Beams Gilbreath, Shirley Beams Keenan and Jaime Steindorf Powell.

Special thanks to the management and staff of The Viera Assisted Living and Gentiva Hospice Corpus Christi for the loving care and nurturing environment that they provided during Susie’s short residency.

A visitation will be held Thursday, June 19, 2025 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Holmgreen Mortuary 2061 E. Main Street Alice, Texas. A Funeral Service will be held Friday, June 20, 2025 at 10:00 AM at  Immanuel Lutheran Church ,1400 N. Texas Blvd, followed by burial at Alice Cemetery.
