Kathryn Miller Obituary

Kathryn Miller passed away on Monday, August 27, 2018 in Corpus Christi, Texas.

A native Texan, she was born in Robstown, Texas in 1927 to parents Roscoe Moseley and Velma Moseley Blessing. She grew up in Petronila and lived most of her adult life in Alice, Texas.

A graduate of Texas A & I University in Kingsville, she taught English to students in both Williams Adams High School (later Alice High School) and Dubose Junior High School during her 36 years of service in the Alice Independent School District. She began teaching in 1946, at the age of 19, and had a few returning WWII veterans as students, who were senior to her in age. She prepared generations of students in critical literary thinking and writing.

Kathryn married Charles Robert "Bob" Miller in June of 1948 and they made Alice their home until his death in 1987. After her retirement, she continued with activities at the First Methodist Church, with Delta Kappa Gamma, and with her friends of many years in Alice. She enjoyed traveling and had great adventures in China, Europe, and Alaska. Devotion to family was the central theme of her life. Kathryn cherished her grandchildren, and in later years she took special delight in visits from her great-granddaughters. She spent the last years of her life in Corpus Christi, first at Trinity Towers and then at the Holmgreen Center.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her brother, Roscoe Moseley, and her sister, Mary Frances Hart.

She is survived by her children, Beth Weakley (husband Steve), Bobby Miller (wife Kathy), and Patrick Miller (wife Jan). Her grandchildren are Kay Lee Fordham (husband Ben) of Austin, Sarah Weakley of San Antonio, Chad Miller of Eugene, Oregon, Kaitlyn Miller of Round Rock, Lauren Miller of Golden, Colorado, and Ian Miller of Houston. Her great-granddaughters are Penny, Bea, and Hazel Fordham of Austin, Mary Weakley of San Antonio, and Jesslyn Gardner of Round Rock.

Kathryn's family will be receiving friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 30, 2018 at Holmgreen Mortuary.

Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, August 31, 2018 at the First United Methodist Church, located at 111 N. Adams Street, Alice. Interment will follow at Alice Cemetery.
