Louis “Sonny” C. Garcia, Jr., age 82, passed away Monday, December 7, 2020 in Corpus Christi, Texas. He was born October 19, 1938 in Corpus Christi, Texas to Louis Churchill and Julia Goodyear Garcia, Sr.
Louis, affectionately known as “Sonny” by his family, proudly served in the United States Navy until 1956. Upon his return he met the love of his life, Alma R. Garcia. They went on to start their life by getting married at the Corpus Christi Cathedral and have their children in Corpus Christi, TX.
Sonny then moved his family to Del Rio, among other cities, but eventually settled in Alice. He was banker for over 40 years in various cities throughout his career. Sonny was a long-time, devoted member of St. Elizabeth Catholic Church and the proud grandson of Mary R. Garcia, whom the elementary school was named after.
He enjoyed, BBQ’n, fishing, hunting, golfing, and especially spending time with his family. Sonny was dearly loved and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Sonny is preceded in death by his parents; two sons, Stephen Anthony Garcia and Randy Garcia; and two brothers, Larry Garcia and Donald Ray Garcia.
Left to cherish their memories of him are his loving wife of 60 years, Alma R. Garcia of Alice, sons, James Louis (Maria) Garcia of Alice and Russell R. (Gina M.) Garcia of Corpus Christi; grandchildren, Brody R. Garcia, Sadie M. Garcia, and Blane Anthony Garcia; sisters, JoAnn (Rudy) Dominguez of Corpus Christi, Betty Jean (Ernest) Albornoz of Corpus Christi, Teena (Trey) Naylor of Beeville, Wanda (Arturo) Garcia of Ben Bolt, Linda (Richard) Gomez of Tucson, AZ, and Peggy Ybarra of San Antonio; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held from 8:30 AM to 9:30 AM on Monday, December 14, 2020 with a Holy Rosary to be recited at 9:30 AM. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 AM at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church, located at 603 E. 5th St. Alice, TX with Monsignor L. Pivonka as Celebrant, followed by a 2:00 PM Graveside Service, with Military Honors, at Coastal Bend State Veterans Cemetery Corpus Christi, TX.
The Garcia family appreciates attendees observe strict social distancing guidelines for everyone's safety.
