Obituary

Lydia G. Perez, age 61, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 7, 2023 after a brief illness. Born and raised in Alice, Texas, she never felt the need to stray too far and always remained close to her roots.

While she stayed home and raised her kids the majority of her life, she worked as a home health aide in her later years and cared deeply for those she was charged with.

Lydia was a proud mom of three daughters and two grandchildren. She was always a phone call away to those she cared for and would give the shirt off her back, if it meant bringing a smile to her grandchildren’s faces. She never showed up with some sort of gift or “snacks” for the kids. She loved music, dancing and especially laughing. Though not a tall woman, she commanded respect and knew how to get what she wanted. If she ever felt that she or anyone she loved was wronged in any way, it would not remain that way for very long. She taught her family to always be strong and keep moving forward and she that through till her last day.

She always strived to stay positive despite the circumstances. Upon the passing of her parents and siblings, she lived with a heartache that never healed, she longed for the day when they would meet again. She has left a void that will never be filled and will be greatly missed by her family, but they are comforted knowing that she is now in Jesus’s loving arms, free of pain and reunited with her family.

Lydia was preceded in death by her parents, Manuel Garza and Matilde Gelista-Garza; siblings, Mary Lou Cano, Manuel Garza, Jr., Eusebio “Shorty” Guerrero and husband, Genaro Perez.

She is survived by her sister, Janie (Richard) Mercer; daughters, Venessa Perez, Rachel Perez (Manuel Rodriguez) and Amelia G. Loera (Sam Acuna); grandchildren, Gabriel Garcia and Matilda Lou Perez; partner, Johnny Loera and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
