Margaret Trevino Lopez, a beloved mother, sister, aunt, grandmother, and cherished friend, passed away on June 5, 2024, at the age of 91. She left an indelible mark on everyone who had the privilege to know her. Margaret is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Augustin "Shorty" Lopez, her brother Daniel Aguilera, and her sister Carmen Stonecipher.
Margaret is survived by her two loving daughters, Nora T. Lopez, and Lora Martinez, (Chuck). She was a proud grandmother to Mia Martinez, who brought immense joy to her life. Her three sisters, Tina Briseno, Sylvia Jimenez, and Hilda Garza (Joe Frank) will deeply miss her presence as a lifelong mentor and mother figure. Margaret also leaves behind numerous beloved nephews and nieces who were all dear to her heart.
Margaret dedicated much of her life to education, serving as a long-time educator for Agua Dulce ISD, and continued to be a cheerleader of Agua Dulce Longhorn academics and athletics. Margaret was a trusted counselor by profession, and personal confidante to friends and family, always ready to lend an ear and offer wise advice to anyone who needed guidance in their life. Margaret was a longtime member of St. Frances of Rome Catholic Church and supporter of its catechism program. Margaret was also known for her exceptional seamstress and culinary talents, which she enjoyed using and sharing with her loved ones.
Margaret took great joy in traveling to Kansas to visit loved ones, and to Louisiana and Las Vegas to gamble at the casinos, one of her favorite pastimes. She would never miss an opportunity to spend an afternoon or evening with her family and friends, enjoying good barbeque, enchiladas, or crawfish, coffee, and conversation.
Margaret leaves a legacy of love, compassion, and unwavering support. Her family and friends take comfort in the countless memories they shared, the love she created, and the profound impact she left on their lives. She will be deeply missed.
A Visitation will be held on Sunday, June 9, 2024 from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM at Holmgreen Mortuary Chapel with a Holy Rosary to be recited at 7:00 PM. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, June 10, 2024 at 10:00 AM. at St. Frances of Rome, Agua Dulce, Texas. Burial will follow at New Collins Cemetery in Alice, Texas.
