Maria Elena Brock

Maria Elena Brock, age 77, closed her eyes for the last time on Sunday, April 10th, 2022 holding her daughter's hand surrounded by love and peace.  She left behind her only daughter, Valerie Stratton, Son-in-law, John Stratton, and her most beloved of all, granddaughter, Sofia Stratton. 

Maria spent her last year of life living, loving, and holding her family close in her daughter's home in Charlotte, NC.  Maria found the ultimate joy in living every day with her granddaughter and cherishing every minute with her family.

 Maria was born to Reynaldo Saenz and Eluteria Saenz on October 17th, 1944 in Benavides, Texas.  She spent her childhood reading and listening to Elvis Presley with her brother, Jesus Saenz.  Maria received two Master's degrees in English and Spanish and taught English at Alice High School for 42 years before retiring in 2011. Maria was a devout Catholic who gave so much of her time to St. Elizabeth Church.  Maria enjoyed reading biographies and mysteries in her free time and would record every Young and the Restless episode she was unable to watch at home. Maria gave everything and all her time to others, whether it was her family, her church, or her students, she lived in service and love of others. She touched many lives and will be missed more than words can describe.

She is also survived by her cousin, Ana Garcia, and her adult children. Maria and Ana were more like sisters, they spent so many years by each other's side and created a special bond.  Maria's dearest friends, parents, and brother have all been waiting for her in heaven all these years, she is sure to be rejoicing and reunited. 

Services will be held at St. Elizabeth Church in Alice, Texas at 2:00 PM on Monday, April 18th, 2022.  She will be laid to rest with her mother, father, and brother at the Benavides cemetery shortly after.  

Arrangements are entrusted to Holmgreen Mortuary, 2061 East Main Street, Alice, Texas.
