Maria Elizabeth Deleon

Maria Elizabeth Deleon, age 59, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family and friends on Tuesday, October 24, 2023 in Austin, Texas. She was born September 5, 1964 in Refugio, Texas to Guadalupe and Elda Arredondo, Sr.

Maria was full of life and always the life of the party. She was a manager of Whataburger in Refugio, Texas for over 14 years and she considered her co-workers more like a second family. She loved listening to music, dancing and spending time with family and friends.

Maria was a devoted wife, mother, sister, aunt, and friend. She dedicated much of her life to her daughter, Darlene, which was her world. Maria was genially a generous person no matter who you were whether you were a friend or a stranger. Even in death she continued to give the gift of life through organ donation where she will continue to live through the people she helped save. She will be truly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Maria was preceded in death by her parents; infant daughter, Amber Gonzalez; brothers, Joe Richard Arredondo and Guadalupe Arredondo, Jr; niece, Ilene Arredondo and father-in-law, Manuel Lopez, Sr.

She is survived by her husband, Manuel Lopez, Jr. of Refugio, Texas; daughters, Darlene Deleon and Caitlin Martinez; son, Manuel Lopez III; grandchildren, Mia J. Reyna, Mark A. Martinez, Kaleb J. Lopez and Jacob M. Lopez; sisters, Linda (Joe) Garcia of Goliad, Texas, Angelita ”Porky” (Noe) Gomez and Pauline Capistran all of Refugio, Texas; brothers, Tony (Jeanette) Arredondo of Refugio, Texas and Trey King (Floie Maldonado) of San Diego, Texas; sister-in-law, Joanna Legunas of Corpus Christi, Texas; brothers-in-law, Pete Lopez of Taft, Texas and Richard Lopez of Houston, Texas and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

A Visitation will be held from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM with a Holy Rosary to be recited at 7:00 PM on Sunday, October 29, 2023 at St. James Catholic Church in Refugio, Texas. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 AM on Monday, October 30, 2023 at St. James the Apostle Catholic Church, 202 E. Santiago St., Refugio, Texas 78377. Rites of Christian Burial to follow at Holy Cross Cemetery in Refugio, Texas. 

Honored to serve as pallbearers will be David S. Gonzales, Anthony Gonzales, Jarren Gonzales, Braylon Gonzales, Randy Arredondo, Tony Lee Arredondo, Pete Lopez, Richard Lopez, Juan Reyna, Mark Martinez and Jose Manuel Sandoval. Honorary Pallbearers will be John Arredondo, Marcus Gonzales, Kellon Gonzales and Joe Garcia, Jr.
