Maria C. Garcia

Maria Consuelo Garcia, age 88, passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by her family. She was born on October 5, 1933, in San Diego, Texas to Ignacio Soliz and Aurora Torrez. Maria was blessed with a loving family and will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Maria had a strong Catholic faith all of her life and attended St. Joseph Catholic Church. She was a strong believer in La Virgin de San Juan and prayed for many people throughout her life.

Maria raised four children with patience, discipline, and humility. She devoted her life to her family, and continued her love and upbringing with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Maria was a homemaker and enjoyed many hobbies. She loved playing Bingo, visiting casinos, going to church, and following her grandchildren in any event. Maria attended countless school functions, swim meets, dance recitals, and Texas Longhorn football games, just to name a few, and was always the first one there. Maria had a special talent for sewing. She was a big Alice Coyote football fan. Maria was known as a congenial person who was always there to lend a helping hand to those in need. Most of all, Maria loved being surrounded by family.

Maria was preceded in death by her parents, Ignacio Soliz and Aurora Torrez; husband, Israel Garcia, Sr.; sisters, Estella (Mando) Garcia and Leonor Alaniz Garcia; and brother, Manuel Torrez.

Loved ones left to cherish her memories are her children, Lilia (Sidney) Vela, Israel (Janet) Garcia, Jr., Roel (Gracie) Garcia, and Melba (Armando) Martinez all of Alice, Texas; ten grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held from 10:00 AM to 12:30 PM on Monday, January 10, 2022, at Holmgreen Mortuary Chapel. A Holy Rosary will be recited at 1:00 PM at St. Joseph Catholic Church followed by Funeral Mass to be celebrated at 1:30 PM Celebrant Father Chris Becerra. A Christian Burial will follow at Alice Cemetery.
