Martha Heard

Martha Owen Dallas Heard was born to Freely Skyles and Virginia Dallas in Natchez, MS, on May 16, 1927.

In 1949 she met her true love Bruce Heard, they were married Jan. 1, 1950 and moved to Alice, Texas. Martha was an active member of the United methodist Church, a member of Weslyan Service Guild, and the United Methodist Women. Martha was a 60 plus year member of the Alice chapter no.61 order of the Easten Star where she served as Matron for many years and on committees of the Grand Chapter of Texas. She served as a member of the Jim Wells County Fair board, President of the Alice 4H-FFA Booster Club, active in the cub scouts, the boy scouts and the Alice youth rodeo Association. One of her favorite activities was building floats for the Jim Wells County Fair parade.

Martha is preceded in death by her husband Bruce Heard; her son Glen Heard; her granddaughter Teri Lizbeth Heard; her sister Sue Dallas; and her two brother Tom and Jack Dallas.

She is survived by her son Bruce and Yvonne Heard of Alice, Texas; her daughter in law Karen Heard of Tuscola, Texas; her grandchildren Casey and Matt Fisher of Blanket, Texas, Garret Heard of Wala Wala, Washington, Sara Heard of Balenger, Texas, Trey Heard of Tuscola, Texas, Billy and Val Lantrip of San Antonio, Texas, and Ben and Raley Lantrip stationed in Idaho; her great grandchildren Skyler Fischer of Blanket, Texas, Haylee (Robert) Coplin of San Angelo, Texas, Allyson(Carson) Leigh of Aubry, Texas, Bryson and Bryor Gergory of Balenger, Texas; great great grandson Bennett Leigh of Aubry, Texas; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A Graveside service will be held Wednesday, April 1, 2026 at Roselawn Memorial Cemetery in Alice, Texas at 11:30 AM.

In Lieu of flowers donations may be made to Driscoll Children’s Hospital Corpus Christi, Texas or the charity of your choice.
