June 26, 1940 ~ July 19, 2023 (age 83) 83 Years Old

Obituary

Nelda Jean Segree, age 83, of Sandia, Texas, passed away on July 19, 2023. She was born on June 26, 1940, in Alice, Texas Jim Wells County, to the late Roy M. Adcock and Adeline "Sweetie" Adcock. Nelda was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 40 years, George "Ray" Segree, her parents, and her brother, James "Jimmy" Adcock.

Nelda was a truly loving and giving mother. As a single mother, she worked tirelessly to provide for her daughters, often juggling multiple jobs. Her family could always count on her unwavering support, both in good times and especially in bad times. Nelda's love for her large family knew no bounds, and she cherished every moment spent with her grandchildren. She took immense pride in her role as a mother and grandmother.

One of Nelda's greatest joys was her "double wide on the creek," where countless family memories were made. She had an amazing green thumb and loved showing off her plants to visitors. Nelda never left the flea market without a new plant to care for. She also had a passion for fishing and cooking, finding great joy in preparing meals for her entire family.

In retirement, Nelda enjoyed going on cruises with the love of her life, Ray, as well as her brother and sister. Ray always promised to show her the world, and he kept that promise. Nelda never stopped missing him. She was known for her feisty and funny nature, with a contagious laugh and a smile that could light up a room.

Nelda is survived by her daughters, Rhonda (Craig) Austin of Alice, Texas, Pam (Scott) Farish of Deer Park, Texas, Barbara (Scott) Thompson of Canyon Lake, Texas, Addie (Tom) Jacobsen of Copperas Cove, Texas, and Terry (Richard) Witzsche of Corpus Christi, Texas. She is also survived by her sons, Michael (Connie) Segree of El Campo, Texas, and David (Greg) Segree of Midland, Texas. Nelda leaves behind a legacy of love, as she is survived by 17 grandchildren and 32 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, Barbara (Kenneth) Wake of Kirby, Texas, her brother, Roy Allen Adcock of Alice, Texas, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Nelda was a longtime member of West Shore Baptist Church, where she actively participated in the Children's Ministry, Vacation Bible School, and the Classy Ladies Bible Study. Her faith played an important role in her life, and she found solace and community within her church.
