Noris Nidia Lerma-Ruiz

Noris Nidia Lerma-Ruiz, 74, passed away peacefully after a courageous, 3-year battle with cancer, on Monday, November 15, 2021, in San Antonio, Texas. She was born in Alice, Texas on July 23, 1947 to Fidencio Lerma and Zoila Pena.

Noris was a 1965 graduate of William Adams High School. She went on to attend South Texas Commercial College and graduated in 1967. She met the love of her life, Joel, in 1989. They married shortly after in Alice where they resided and raised their family.

Noris enjoyed her career in banking and financing but eventually she left the industry for what became her most rewarding role as a fulltime homemaker. She was a member of the Alice Book Lovers Club; an animal advocate and supporter of Paws Up, Inc., and a passionate political electioneer for local, state and federal campaigns. Noris loved and lived for all music genres and enjoyed attending concerts of her favorite artists, including Marc Anthony and Gypsy Kings, in Austin with her daughter as often as she could. She loved to sightsee with her son; support local businesses and host family events; an absolute joy for her.

Whether through her quick, comedic wit or generosity to anyone in need, Noris was a selfless person who brought joy to everyone. She was dearly loved and will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Noris is preceded in death by her parents, Fidencio and Zoila (Peña) Lerma and sister, Noris Nidia Lerma; and cousins, "prima hermanas", Rosie (Lupe) Montez and Minerva "Minnie" (Joe "Pepe") Perez from Alice.

Family members left to cherish her memory are her loving husband of 31 years, Joel Ray Ruiz of Alice, Texas; children, Joshua Rene Flores of Corpus Christi, Texas and Andreea Obed Flores (Sean M. Elsberry) of Austin, Texas; brother Fidencio (Olga) P. Lerma of Alice, Texas; niece, Marissa (Kim) Kubala of Alice, Texas; great niece and nephew, Sara Olivia Kubala and Austin Reese Kubala both of Alice, Texas.

A Memorial Service will be celebrated at 10:00 AM on Saturday, December 4, 2021 at Holmgreen Mortuary, 2061 E. Main St., Alice, Texas. Celebrant Monsignor L. Pivonka.
