Raymundo “Little Ray” Villanueva died peacefully at his home on Tuesday, August 31, 2021 in Lagarto, TX. He was born on January 1, 1930, in San Benito, Texas.
Ray proudly served in the United States Marine Corps where he was a telegraph operator, boxer, and bravely fought side by side with his fellow soldiers in the Korean War.
Ray grew up in the same neighborhood as Freddie Fender and would occasionally perform with him. He enjoyed entertaining people by playing the saxophone for many years. He was an avid big game hunter, loved fast pitch softball and little league baseball. He was a craftsman, who built his own home. Ray was dearly loved and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
He is proceeded in death by his parents Baltazar Villanueva and Lorenza Guerra Villanueva; and brothers and sisters.
Ray is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Herlinda Briseno Villanueva of Lagarto, TX; three children, Linda (Marvin) Christmas of Livingston, TX, Raymundo (Edith) Villanueva of Donna, TX, and Susana (Daryle) Wilson of Porter, OK; seven grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A Graveside Service with Full Military Honors will be scheduled for a later date at Coastal Bend State Veterans Cemetery.
