Richard Lee Burdett Jr., 76, died peacefully on September 21, 2024, after a long battle with multiple health issues. Born May 5, 1948 at Cleburne, Texas to parents Richard Lee Burdett and Ethel Faye Moncrief, he grew up in Whitney, Texas. He graduated from Whitney High School in 1967. In 1974 He joined the U.S. Air Force and spent the next 20 years in the service of his country. He was assigned to Tactical Air Command and Control (TACP).
In June 1966, he married Patricia Sue Corley, and that marriage lasted 58 years. They had four daughters, Laura, Melanie, Kelli, and Heather.
His real true love was music, and he was a talented guitarist. While stationed in Europe, he and his band played all over Europe. He played in Spain, France, Italy, and all over West Germany.
Following retirement, he moved his family back to Waco, Texas where he spent the remainder of his life. Until health problems ended his musical career in 2015, he continued to play in various bands in the Central Texas area.
He was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and his testimony of his Saviour, Jesus Christ, never faltered. He is survived by his wife, Sue, and his daughters, Laura and Heather, as well as his brother, Larry Burdett.
Visitation will be held Saturday, September 28, 2024 from 11:30 AM until 1:00 PM at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints 7201 Viking Drive, Waco, Texas with a Funeral Service to be held at 1:00 PM. Graveside Services will be immediately after at Moore Cemetery 5105 Gholson Road, Waco, Texas.
