Robert Dean Vandel, age 87, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 31, 2023 in Corpus Christi, Texas. He was born May 11, 1936 in Lucerne, Missouri, son of Ed and Evelyn Vandel.
Bob was a paper boy and helped his mother working in restaurants. After he graduated from Unionville high school in 1954, he went on to serve his country in the navy, working on aircraft’s and seeing Vietnam twice, he retired after 21 years of service. He worked at Beeville sheriff’s department, for over 20yrs. He was a mason, Shriner, and lifetime member at Mathis lodge, as well as a worthy patron and rainbow dad. Bob loved being a husband, father, and supporting his family any way he could.
He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife of 49.5 years, Marilyn Vandel; brother, Bill Vandel; stepfather, Leonard Carson; sister-in-law, Sue Vandel and nephew, Mike Wilson.
Robert is survived by his wife, Randi Vandel of Mathis, Texas; daughters, Patricia (Don) Godsey of Flour Bluff, Texas, Ann (James) Willis of Grapeland, Texas and Gail (Clay) Dupree of Duncan, Oklahoma; sister, Mary (Regis) Blocker of Lucerne, Missouri and numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, great great grandchildren, nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.
A Memorial Service will be held at 9:30 AM on Friday, November 17, 2023 at Al Amin Shrine Temple, 2001 Suntide Rd. Corpus Christi, Texas, 78407. Inurnment will follow at 11:00 AM at the Coastal Bend State Veterans Cemetery.
