Roy Edward Meyer

Roy Edward Meyer, age 87, passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 15, 2022 in Alice, Texas. He was born on January 27, 1934 to Joe William Meyer and Louise Bendele Meyer in Hondo, Medina County, Texas.

Roy graduated from Hondo High School in 1955 and went on to earn a degree in Industrial Distribution at Sul Ross University. Roy was the proud owner/operator of Roy’s Tire & Auto Service and Repair for over 30 years but his biggest achievement was being the World’s Greatest Dad.

Roy enjoyed fishing, hunting, NASCAR, and watching his children play sports. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Lions Club, and served as President of the Alice High School Booster Club for several years. He was a devoted parishioner of St. Elizabeth Catholic Church for 50 years.

Roy is preceded in death by his parents, Joe W. Meyer and Louise B. Meyer and sister, Mary Jo Schweers.

Loved ones left to cherish his memories are his loving wife, Mary Lou Meyer; children, Joe W. (Connie) Meyer, Melinda A. (Ken) Planchard, Darryl P. Meyer, and Brenda K. (David) Blaylock; siblings, Carole Harton and Franci Seiler; grandchildren, Leslie Meyer, Adrianne Meyer, Peyton Planchard, Brandon Planchard, Kyle Meyer, Hanna Meyer, Arin Blaylock, and Brooklyn Blaylock.

Visitation will be held from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM with a Holy Rosary to be recited at 7:15 PM on Thursday, January 20, 2022, at Holmgreen Mortuary 2061 E. Main St., Alice, Texas. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 AM on Friday, January 21, 2022, at St Elizabeth Catholic Church, 603 E. Main St., Alice, Texas. Celebrant, Monsignor Leonard Pivonka. Fellowship and family and friends luncheon will be at the Parish Hall immediately following the Mass. Procession will begin at 1:00 PM to St Anthony’s Cemetery in Violet, Texas for a Catholic Burial
