Ruben M. Lara

Ruben M. Lara “Chocolate”, aged 54, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 23, 2022 in Alice, Texas. Ruben was born on June, 28, 1967, in East Moline, Illinois to Jesus C. Lara and Estella Maldonado.

Ruben was an avid Dallas Cowboys fan, he enjoyed spending time with his kids, grandkids, friends, and family. He was a longtime carpenter who gained so many friends that became his family. He was someone who you could not help but love. He spent his days swinging his hammer, hanging by the pit and/or drinking a few cold ones at the “VF” with his buddies. He was dearly loved by so many people and will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Jesus C. Lara and Estella Maldonado and his youngest son, Jesus (Jesusito) Lara.

He is survived by his loving; companion, Rachel Salinas of San Diego, Texas; children, Ruben (Dianita) Lara, Jr. , Eric Lara both of San Diego, Texas, and Shannon (Anastacio) Sanchez of San Antonio, Texas; stepchildren, Michael (Amanda) Gutierrez, Hector (Linda) Briones both of San Diego, Texas and Ashley Salinas of Alice, Texas; 23 grandchildren; sisters, Jessica, Pat, and Cora Lara all of San Diego, Texas and Norma Lara of Alice, Texas; and numerous nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends.

A Visitation will be held from 3:00 PM to 9:00 PM on Monday, April 4, 2022, at Holmgreen Mortuary Chapel located at 2061 E. Main St. Alice, TX. A Holy Rosary will be recited at 7:00 PM, followed by a Funeral Service. All services will conclude at Funeral Home.

Arrangements are entrusted to Holmgreen Mortuary, 2061 E. Main St., Alice, Texas.
