Ruth Lindquist Obituary

Ruth Borchardt Lindquist, 85, passed away on October 22, 2024.  Ruth was born on a farm in DeWitt County, Texas, on December 1, 1938, to Herman and Caroline Borchardt.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Eric R. Lindquist, Jr., her dad, Herman Borchardt, her mom, Caroline Kneten Borchardt, and her sister-in-laws, Omajean Lindquist Evans, and Noralee Lindquist Howard.

Ruth is survived by her three sons, Eric R. Lindquist III, his wife, Rosie, of Alice, Bobby Lindquist, his wife, Sarah, of Spring, Bryan Lindquist, of Houston, grandchildren Christian Elizabeth Lindquist, of Spring, and Joseph Tyler Lindquist, his wife, Amanda, of Magnolia, her brother Marvin Borchardt, and his wife, Helen, of Corpus Christi, her sister, Darleen Wilkinson, and her husband, James, of Edna, her sister Jeanette Settles, of Colorado,  She is also survived by sister-in-laws, Della Lindquist, of Premont, Carolyn Lindquist, husband, Kenneth, of Humble, Carol Lindquist, husband, Joseph Lindquist (deceased) of Sandia, and numerous nieces and nephews.

As a stay-at-home mother, Ruth was constantly busy taking care of her husband and 3 boys, but always found time to cook, sew, crochet, and can/pickle preserves.  She would sew clothes for her boys, her sister, her sister-in-laws, and nieces.  For many years she would enter some of these items in the county fair, winning numerous ribbons for her efforts.  Once the boys grew older, Ruth began working for H&R Block doing taxes during tax season for a few years, which she continued doing for her sons up until a couple of years ago.  Ruth later took a part-time job as a Secretary at Immanuel Lutheran Church of Alice, where she was a member.  From there she moved on to become a travel agent, which gave her and her husband, Eric, the opportunity to take various trips which she absolutely loved doing.  Unfortunately, after the attacks of 9/11/2001, the travel industry took a temporary hit and she was laid off.  During this time she was able to take some community education classes, learning to use a computer which led her to become a Receptionist at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church of Alice, which she continued to do for over 20 years.  During these many endeavors, she was constantly meeting new people and making new friendships, many of which continued for the rest of her life.

Ruth was baptized on February 5, 1939 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Westhoff, Tx. and later confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church of Alice on March 29, 1953. Throughout her life, Ruth’s faith in Jesus was always the foundation of her servant attitude and caring heart.   She always made sure her three boys were at Sunday school and church.  She was an active participant in Lydia Circle and Altar Guild at Immanuel Lutheran. She also served on Church Council several times and was often a member of the Church Call Committees.  She continued to attend Sunday service and Wednesday Night Bible Study with the help of congregation members who would make sure she had a ride to and from these events.  She very much enjoyed and appreciated her friends who hung around to play 42 after Wednesday Night Bible Study!

Some of her fondest memories were when her young grandchildren, Chris and Ty, were living nearby and she was able to spend time with them and help care for them while their parents worked.  This allowed them to develop a very close bond with each other that continued until she went to be with our Lord Jesus.

Ruth will be dearly missed by both family and friends, but especially by her three sons and grandchildren who dearly loved her.
