Ruth Weathersby Obituary

Ruth Ann Weathersby, 77, passed away peacefully at her home in Agua Dulce, TX on April 29, 2026, after a valiant and dignified battle with cancer, a battle she has faced and fought bravely with courage and strength for over 20 years. In the very same way she lived, Ruthie passed gracefully surrounded by her family and close friends in a circle of love from all whose lives she touched.

Ruthie was born on February 12, 1949, in Mathis, TX. She was the oldest (and bossiest) of her five sisters Kathy, Linda, Janice, and Loretta. She spent her school years in Banquete where she graduated from High School in 1967. Ruthie married her high school sweetheart, David, on June 20, 1970, and for over 55 years built a life, a family and a legacy that will have a lasting impact on her friends and family for generations well beyond her passing.

Ruthie lived her life with a true servant’s heart and was a faith-filled follower of Jesus. She was a dedicated and lifelong member of the First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Orange Grove, TX where she attended as a child, married her high school sweetheart, David. She served in many capacities within the church, but her favorite these last few years was the quilting group. She loved the quilting group, not for the sewing, but for the company that it provided. One of her most cherished times was every Sunday after church when she and the Dairy Queen Queens would go to lunch.

What Ruthie loved the most was her deep faith in God, her family, friends and being a wife and Mom. She especially loved being “Momo” to Karley, Macie, Walker, Case and Cutter. Ruthie traveled all over the state of Texas cheering them on through every big life moment that was important to them, rarely missing a single event. The grandkids loved Momo’s chocolate crinkle cookies and trash mix, and she made it every time one of them asked for it, which was quite often. Ruthie loved her road trips with David, a random day trip to San Antonio for a good restaurant or shopping. Not being one to like to break a sweat, her favorite form of exercise was swiping David’s credit card and asking for forgiveness later. She would often be seen speeding through town onto her next adventure. She loved to laugh and was known by everyone for her quick wit and humor which she kept right up to her last day. Ruthie loved her birthday month, and everyone who knew her knew she dearly loved a good party. She loved her pets (most were rescue pets), a good bread pudding, and really loved to help people. Ruthie was never afraid to speak her mind, and if she thought she was right – she was. She loved a good glass of unsweetened iced tea with lime, she loved to cook, play games with her family, and have big family gatherings. She loved going out to eat and shopping with her lifelong friends Susie, Beverly, Becky, Ruth, Janie, and Terri. Throughout her life, Ruthie lived life to the fullest with her cup running over and her heart full of gratitude and feeling blessed, even to her last earthly day.

When Ruthie first learned of her cancer diagnosis, she prayed to God. Her prayer was that she would live long enough to see her beautiful grandchildren grow up. He answered that prayer in a mighty way. Before her passing, she expressed her gratitude and said her life was full and truly blessed.

Ruthie is survived by her husband of 55 years David Weathersby; daughters Shannon Scarborough (Tobin) of Banquete, TX and Kari Hendricks (Wade) of Agua Dulce, TX; grandchildren Karley Hendricks of Austin, TX; Macie Scarborough of Banquete, TX; Case Scarborough (Aliyah) of Lubbock, TX; Walker Hendricks (Sara) of Austin, TX; Cutter Scarborough of Banquete, TX; her sisters Kathy Wimberly (Ronnie), Robstown, TX; Janice Kimball (Jimmy), Corpus Christi, TX; Linda Diehnelt (Bill), Sun Lakes, AZ; Loretta Colby (Walt), Riviera, TX; and numerous nieces and nephews, extended family and an even larger circle of friends she considered family.

Ruthie was preceded in death by her mom and dad William “Bill” and Dorothy Schroeder and niece Misty Wimberly.
