Sandra L. Shanks

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our mother, Sandra Lynn Shanks, who passed away on Saturday, December 28, 2024 at the age of 73. She was born on September 15, 1951 in Alliance, Nebraska to Henry and Dorothy Unverzagt.

Sandra grew up on her family’s farm. She later moved to Texas to raise her family. She owned a private daycare until going to work as a Project Manager for Cude Engineers for the next 35 years until she retired. She had a passion for gardening, fishing, music on her porch while looking at the lake and enjoying her time with family and friends. She was a dedicated loving wife to her late husband, caretaker to her mother and a devoted mother and grandmother to her children and grandchildren.

She was a kind and generous soul, always putting others needs before her own. Her love and compassion were felt by all those that knew her. She will be deeply missed.

She was proceeded in death by her parents, Henry and Dorothy Unverzagt; husband, Melvin “Speedy” Shanks and granddaughter Alivia Adair. 

She is survived by her children, Josh (Tammi) Vicars, Staci Vicars and Lindsay Crozier; grandchildren, Brett Long, Scott Long, Conner Vicars, Payton Crozier, Alexis Vicars and Julianna Vicars and siblings, Thomas Unverzagt, Micheal Unverzagt and Kathy Sweat Fullerton.

A Celebration of Life will be held from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM on Friday, January 17, 2025 at Holmgreen Mortuary. Burial will be at Roselawn Memorial Park. A Reception will follow at 5187 County Road 79, Robstown Texas 78380. 

Arrangements are entrusted to Holmgreen Mortuary, 2061 East Main Street, Alice, Texas.
