Stella Schmidt Obituary

Stella Ella Schmidt, aged 93, passed away peacefully on June 4, 2025, in Alice, Texas. She was born on November 6, 1931, in Ricardo, Texas, to Herman Meyer and Erna Wolff Meyer.

Stella was the beloved wife of the late Emil Schmidt, the love of her life. They met at a dance at the Orange Grove Rifle Club. While dating, he was called off to serve at Fort Sill, so they kept in contact through written letters. Once he was discharged, they married in October of 1952. They quickly found their forever farm in Alice and continued to polka dance on Saturday nights. Stella was a devoted, hard-working farmer’s wife who had no problem driving a grain truck, canning vegetables, sewing clothes, raising chickens, and processing animals. Doing whatever needed to be done to provide for her family.

Stella also dedicated 21 years to Alice ISD as a bread baker. She baked for thousands of school children over the years, as well as her large family. She regularly made five loaves of homemade bread on Saturdays while listening to the Polka Party on the radio. And her cinnamon rolls were a favorite of anyone who tasted them.

Once she retired, she took up playing Bunco. But her favorite pastime was spending time with her grandchildren. She had many cherished memories of them spending time on the farm. And she loved cheering them on at sports games, dance recitals, and go- kart races. In her final years, Stella became a professional at Word Find, loved winning
at Bingo and shaking the dominoes.

Stella was a devout member of St. Elizabeth Catholic Church and its Altar and Rosary Society. For years, she attended Mass daily and was a well-known prayer warrior who felt called to pray for others. Her faith was the cornerstone of her life. Stella was deeply loved by so many. She was a beautiful, kind woman inside and out
and will be forever remembered by all who knew her. Her many friends will miss her dearly. Stella’s family finds comfort knowing that she is now reunited with her husband,
Emil, and son, Richard.

Stella leaves behind her children: two sons Glenn Schmidt of Refugio and Jerry (Becky) Schmidt of Alice; two daughters Karen (Chuck) Crawford of Alice and Barbara (Mark) Stahl of Boerne. Four grandchildren Daren (Hannah) Satsky, Kevin (Hannah) Satsky, Courtney Schmidt and Morgan (Tristan) Gideon. Three great-grandchildren Maeve
Gideon, Stella Satsky, and Maren Gideon. She was eager to meet her fourth great-
grandchild in November.

A special thank you to the Windsor Nursing Home staff, especially the caretakers on Hall A.

Pallbearers: Daren Satsky, Kevin Satsky, Tristan Gideon, Gary Mcdonnel, Mark Stahl, Buddy Lassmann
