Sylvia Lopez

Sylvia Cortinas Lopez, age 68, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family on Sunday, November 2, 2025, in San Antonio, TX. She was born on January 30, 1957, in Laredo, Texas to Rey Cortinas, Sr. and Beatrice Garza Cortinas. 

Sylvia lived her life for her family and her home; she was a dedicated and family-oriented woman who devoted her life to her husband, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.  She enjoyed playing chalupa, cooking authentic Mexican meals like enchiladas, tamales, Atole de arroz and baking pan de polvo. Sylvia loved watching scary movies with her grandchildren, and she especially enjoyed trips to Kickapoo Casino with her beloved husband; she was happy just to be able to share her time and love with her family. Sylvia was dearly loved and will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

She was preceded in death by her parents Rey and Beatrice Cortinas, Sr.; daughter baby girl Lopez; sisters Olga Laurel and Rebecca Vasquez.

Loved ones left to cherish her memory are her husband Oscar Lopez, Jr.; children Oscar Lopez III (Yvette), Maria Guadalupe Curiel (Alejos Jr.), Pedro Lopez (Evelyn) and Linda Ann Ochoa (Santiago); ten grandchildren, five great-grandchildren; siblings Rey Cortinas, Jr. (Rosa), Jose Cortinas (Olga), Henry Cortinas (Nelda), Sophia Trevino and Patricia Benavides; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The Family would like to express a special thank you to Christus ER Alice, Christus Spohn ICU Santa Rosa in San Antonio, Alice EMS and Meridian Care staff for all their care and compassion. 

A Visitation will be held on Thursday, November 6, 2025 from 8:30 AM to 9:30 AM at Holmgreen Mortuary, 2061 E. Main St., Alice, TX 78332, with a Funeral Mass to be celebrated at 10:00 AM at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 801 S Reynolds St, Alice, TX followed by a Christian burial at Alice Cemetery.

Arrangements are entrusted to Holmgreen Mortuary, 2061 E. Main Street, Alice, Texas.
